Living together

Dear Editor,
Mathura MP Hema Malini’s outcry against the monkeys of Vrindavan is unwarranted. Cleaning the Yamuna is one thing and driving out monkeys from Vrindavan is another.
Who says the monkeys are a menace in Vrindavan? They are part and parcel of the holy town. They have been associated with Vrindavan from time immemorial. Pictures of child Krishna feeding butter to monkeys are found in many temples of Vrindavan. The monkeys are well-fed by visiting pilgrims and local residents. Nobody here can imagine a Vrindavan without monkeys. Hema Malini, who knows nothing about Braj Bhoomi, should not meddle with issues at the heart of Vrindavan.
