RAMNAGAR: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Udhampur, Saloni Rai on Saturday declared open the District Udhampur Volleyball Championship at Indoor complex, Ramnagar.
Along with another IAS officer and SDM Ramnagar, Shishir Gupta, the chief guest interacted with the participating teams in both boys and girls section.
After witnessing the opening matches, the DC appreciated the efforts of those working behind the scene in shaping the talent of rural youth in sports. She also lauded the efforts of young girls taking part in the cultural programme presented in the opening function.
Earlier, President of the District Association, Ashok Padha welcomed the chief guest and the distinguished gathering while secretary, Amit Chander Singh presented vote of thanks.
In total, 11 teams in boys and five in girls section are taking part in this league-cum-knockout event being organised by the District Udhampur Volleyball Association in collaboration with J&K Sports Council and supported by Gupta Cement Store Ramnagar and senior citizens club Ramnagar.
Prominent among those present were Sagar Dev, Shiv Dev (PO Judiciary), Yuvraj Singh, Rishi, Mannu, Meenakshi, Pawandev Singh and Younis.
The technical panel for today’s matches comprised Manik Nargotra, Kuldeep Sharma, Suresh Paul, Surinder Gupta, Rakesh Singh, Rakesh Rahi and Vinod Sharma.

BOYS: Tikri Club bt Chivyai Club 2-0 (25-21, 25-18); Barta Club bt Dehari Club 2-0 (25-23, 25-22); Thail Club bt Barta Club 2-1 (25-19, 20-25, 15-13). GIRLS: GHS Ramnagar bt Bharta Club 2-0 (25-23, 25-22); GDC Ramnagar bt GHS Ramnagar 2-0 (28-26, 25-21).
