Historic: Poonch female spiker in India camp

JAMMU: After Saqlain Tariq, a young female spiker from district Poonch, Payal Sharma has created history by becoming first woman to come closer to finding berth in the Indian Volleyball team by getting selected for the National camp.
Likewise Saqlain, Payal has been trained and groomed at the training facility of Shaheed DySP Manjit Singh Memorial Volleyball Club Poonch by Mohd Tariq Khan, a FIVB level 1 Coach and chairman of the famous J&K Club.
Payal’s name has been figured in the final selection list of probable released by the adhoc committee of the Volleyball Federation of India (VFI) for the camp.
“Selections from remote district of Poonch at the National level are the outcome of a dedicated team at the Shaheed Manjit Club, which works tirelessly for the last over a decade to train and guide the youngsters to achieve the desired results,” said Mohd Tariq Khan.
Meanwhile, Tariq, on behalf of the Club, expressed thanks to the Adhoc Committee of the VFI, especially chairman, Rohit Rajpal and secretary, Alakhnanda Ashok for considering a talented girl from remote district of J&K in the prestigious India camp.
“The adhoc committee of the VFI has done a tremendous job for selecting the talented stuff for the camp thus deserves appreciation,” further said Tariq.
The Volleyball Association of J&K (VAJK) termed the selection as historic. “Such achievements certainly help others get inspired at the grassroot level. The volleyball in J&K has a bright future, provided youngsters work hard,” said Chief Executive Officer of the VAJK, Kuldeep Magotra while conveying his gratitude on behalf of the Association.
