POONCH: Wednesday night has been a nightmare for all the people of Poonch as the floods hit almost all the areas of the district. Reports of many casualties and injured kept coming all day long. Lots of people have still not been rescued though the rescue operation by the district administration and volunteers is going on.
After the earth quake in 2006 this is the first biggest natural disaster of its type and there is an emergency like situation in the district.
Interacting with the media, Ch. Abdul Ghani Social Activist and (Independent candidate from Poonch Haveli) offered condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. He appealed to the citizens of the district to stay calm and alert and also emphasised to help and support the needful in this hard time of natural disaster. Khenetar, Dingla, Janyar, Bench, Gulpur, Khari Karmara, Sher E Kashmir Bridge Colony, Azad Mohalla, Gundi, Purani Poonch, Mandi, Sawjian are few areas including many others which got affected by the flood.
Ch. Abdul Ghani said that the government should give immediate compensation as a piece of relief to all those who have lost their loved ones and valuables.
Ghani on meeting the district administration demanded rehabilitation for those who lost their homes and asked for Rs 10 lakh compensation for the families of those who lost their valuable life, Rs 5 lakh for house loss, Rs 2 lakh for animal loss and 1 year free ration and Rs 1 lakh for those who lost their crop . He further said that the relief camps for food, clothes and shelter be established for the affected.
Ch. Ghani thanked district administration and specially DDC and SSP Poonch for their immediate action over the issue and deploying rescue teams on time which resulted in saving thousand valuables lives.
