CBI books Handicrafts, NGO officials for misappropriation of over Rs 22 lakh

JAMMU: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed FIR against V.K Savita then Assistant Director (Handicrafts) M and SEC Jammu, Surjeet Kour, wife of Harbhajan Singh President KJK Welfare Society and unknown persons for misappropriated Govt funds to the tune of Rs 22,76,500.
According to CBI during the preliminary enquiry it was found that KJK Welfare Society, an NGO, was operational in the villages of District Samba, and was sanctioned different projects/ workshops from Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) Ministry of Textiles Govt of India.
During the relevant period, V.K Savita then AD (H) Jammu of Marketing Service Extension Center was responsible for proper implementation of projects. However, the officer in connivance with NGO and others without the intention of executing these projects/ workshops on ground siphoned off Govt funds to the tune of Rs 22,76, 5000 during the period of 2009 to 2014.
After preliminary enquiry, CBI found that the above said persons have abused their official positions by cheating and using of forged documents as genuine, caused wrongful loss to Govt exchequer and these facts prima-facie disclose the commission of offence punishable under section 120-B read with section 420/467/468/471/ RPC and 5(2) read with 5(1) (d) of J&K PC Act Svt 2006 and registered FIR. –JNF
