AJKPC to protest for constitutional status to PRIs

JAMMU: All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference on Sunday resolved to continue its agitation seeking constitutional status for Panchayati Raj Institutions.
Addressing a daylong panchayat empowerment convention, the speakers hailing from different blocks and district of Jammu province vowed to continue their fight for seeking constitutional status for the Panchayati Raj Institutions.
A resolution was also passed in the convention wherein all the Panchayat members demanded strict implementation of 73rd amendment of Indian Constitution.
It was decided that irrespective political nature of the dispensation, 33,000 Panchs and Sarpanchs shall not dilute their stand of seeking Constitutional Status for the Panchayati Raj Institutions which is the only and best remedy for ensuing democracy in the State.
The participants also resolved to start awareness programmes in all blocks and districts of the State. “If required the organisation shall not hesitate to come on roads for ensuring implementation of 73rd amendment”, the meeting resolved.
Shafiq Mir, Chairman AJKPC, Anil Sharma, President, Bimla Devi, President Women Wing, Bashir Malik, Provincial President Kashmir unit, Gautam Singh Jamwal, Provincial Secretary(J), Raj Kumar Provincial Vice President (J) and Nazir Ahmed Sheikh besides several other Sarpanchs from Rajouri, Poonch, Samba, Kathua and Jammu districts spoke on the occasion.
Anil Sharma said that AJKPC will soon start the awareness programme covering the entire state to educate people on the implementation of 73rd amendment.
Earlier, the convention paid homage to former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed by observing two minutes silence.
