Ahmed hospital performs 95 surgeries in 5 days

Srinagar: The 25-bed Ahmad Hospital on Nowgam bypass area of Srinagar outskirts in the last five days has performed more than 95 surgeries, most of them free of cost.

With every other hospitals in the city inundated in J&K’s worst floods in 100 years, this hospital in Gulshan Nagar is the only refuge for the sick. There are pregnant women ready for delivery, and others who need dialysis.

The owner of hospital, Dr Asif Khandey, said the hospital has ordered extra medical supplies from Delhi, but those are lying at the Srinagar airport, where authorities have been unable to clear them.

“We don’t mind. Everyone can come here, but we wish the health department would just help us in procuring medicines,” he said.

Doctors at the hospital said they do not require monetary help, but do need medical supplies and antibiotics urgently.

Dr Khandey said many new-born babies who will be discharged soon along with their mothers. He is worried because none of these babies have been immunised as the hospital has run out of those medicines.

“They can get it done within ten days of birth,” Dr Khandey said.

Meanwhile other top territory hospitals like Bone and Joint hospital at Barzullah Srinagar and SMHS hospital at Karannagar Srinagar are still not properly functional as flash flood hit both these hospitals badly. On other hand lone maternity hospital LD hospital are still not functional as it resides near the Jehlum bank and is still under flooded water since last one week.

While contacting Director Health Dr Salim-ur-Rehman he said that we are trying level best to restore the services in all government hospitals which were hit by flash floods, he also added that we will initialize the services within no time.
