Ahead of Republic Day, Core Group fine-tunes Jammu security

Jammu: Ahead of the Republic Day, a need for high level of vigilance was underscored at a meeting of top officials of army, paramilitary forces and state police and administration which reviewed the security situation of Jammu region where the state’s main function will take place.
The meeting of the ‘Core Group’ of Security was held at Nagrota to take stock of the prevailing security measures in Jammu Region in the run up to the Republic Day, Defence spokesman said here.
The meeting was co-chaired by Commander of Jammu-based 16 Corps Lt Gen A K Sharma and Director General of state police S P Vaid and was attended by Jammu Divisional Commissioner Pawan Kotwal as also IG Police Jammu Zone, IG BSF, IG CRPF and senior officials of intelligence agencies, the spokesman said.
A joint strategy was chalked out in great detail by all agencies to ensure peace and stability in the region and ensure incident free Republic day where Governor N N Vohra will supervise the parade and take salute.
They emphasised the need for high level of vigiliance and “remaining alive and responsive to any developing security situation” while ensuring a peaceful and conducive environment in the region, the spokesman said.
Lt Gen Sharma said the Army and its various formations deployed south of Pir Panjal have been pro-actively involved in maintaining peace and communal harmony in the region in complete synergy with civil administration, he said.
He also emphasised that the army was always ready to face any challenges whether on the Line of Control or in hinterland and were prepared in all respects to assist the civil administration.
Lt Gen Sharma and Vaid appreciated the high levels of synergy in operations exhibited by all agencies in recent times.
They encouraged all present to meet the security challenges and work towards enhancing confidence among the people.
Schools put on maximum alert
JAMMU: In the run up to the Republic Day celebrations, the district police authorities have alerted the school managements to prevent entry of strangers in their premises and lay emphasis on the security of students by taking adequate measures.
In addition to this, separate security check points and intensive frisking of vehicles has been ordered by the police authorities while urging the local residents to cooperate with the security forces to prevent any anti- national element from executing their terror plot. SSP Jammu also issued a comprehensive advisory to the general public while seeking their support to prevent any militant strike. He has directed the SHOs and incharge police posts to remain alert and present in their areas of jurisdiction round the clock. The police posts falling in the border areas were also directed to maintain tight vigil on the infiltration routes taken by the anti national elements to sneak inside the Indian territory.
SSP Jammu through the security advisory informed the general masses,”in view of the forth coming Republic Day 2016, present security scenario in the state and impending threats from ANEs some Nakas and frisking points have been established in Jammu city as well as rural areas for the security and safety of the general public. You are requested to co-operate with police while at Naka and frisking points, don’t feel it as harassment by the police. Barricades and checking will be intensified within the city and at the borders. Citizens are requested to plan their movements accordingly”.
“From the security point of view, it is requested to all the school managements in District Jammu that do not allow any stranger in the school and meanwhile give necessary precautions to the students”.
General public is also requested to take preventive actions like – “do not touch any abandoned object. On seeing any suspected person/object /material inform the police immediately. If you have any information about any anti-national/anti-social elements, please inform the police immediately. Security of the informant shall be kept confidential. Be alert while travelling in passenger vehicles, in crowded areas i.e Bus Stand/Railway Station/Shopping Complexes/Hospitals etc.”
As per the advisory, ” VDC members/Numberdars/Chowkidars are directed to cooperate with each other while performing their duties for safety and security of their respective villagers especially on forth coming Republic Day”.
