The Bold Voice of J&K

A Sinking Ship? Well……..

Prof. Nutan K.Resutra

I am a born Hindu.
I am a staunch Sanatani;
But I regularly listen to Arya Samaj Mantras also.
I am a blue-blooded Jammuite; and as such:
I am a true nationalist patriot.
I also supported vehemently the BJP in all elections.
And
I am an andh-bhakt of Modi Ji; for reasons known to millions.

For being the andh-bhakt, many of my own family make very good fun of me. Comments taken; criticism accepted whole heartedly!
Now let me frankly confess one thing: I am totally illiterate when it comes to the knowledge of politics. For, I am an academician. I sit at the banks and watch the ups and downs of water with not an iota of will to jump into it, like many and many others. I feel very comfortable when I go through the served news of different media, but relying least on the social media! And like other academicians I too have a very nasty habit of going through history: comparing today with yesterday.
Aaeyey, ek kahani sunte hain.
Once upon a time, not too far back but just hundred plus years, a political party was born with the motive to achieve Independent India. And its success story continued for over a century, with one remarkable thing. Whenever the party seemed to be strong, people from outside jumped into this ship reaping and enjoying benefits which otherwise were to be for the loyalists. And the ship starts sinking with the load of unwanted persons with ship-rats jumping out in the very first instance. Alas! History keeps on repeating this fact with one party in question or the other.
I was very happy, rather excited to see the by-gone LK Advani and my fraternity teacher MM Joshi take out Rath Yatras with heart- warming slogan Saugandh Ram Ki Khate Hain, Hum Mandir Vahin Baneyangey! The coming down of Babri Masjid and the proud statement of Bala Saheb Thakrey on various TV channels ‘Babri Masjid Shiv Sainikon ne todi hai’ seemed to be full of some energetic magic mantras. And I did celebrate along with many when Modi Ji entered Temple of Democracy, the Lok Sabha after doing Pranaam at the door. With the absolute thumping majority in the second innings of the BJP I felt as if now nothing can stop us(read Hindus) in regaining our lost pride, self-respect and dignity. I remained glued to the television during the Pran Pratishtha of Ram Lala at Ayodhya on January 22, 2024. At last; we had the Ram Mandir for which people had yearned for more than five hundred years. Mandir vahin bana! I felt proud to be an Indian Hindu!
Immediately after this greatest event of our times, the defeat of very Faizabad seat itself in the General Elections was such a blow that still aches somewhere inside. Faizabad? Ayodhya? Where a complete kaya-kalp had taken place; that Ayodhya was lost? Why? Because one Lallu Singh was so arrogant that even Lord Ram could not save them?
There was a manthan and atam chintan in the party and different reasons were cited for not getting good results; and I will not go into those details because neither I am a party worker nor am I the decision maker at the apex party headquarters. As a wave-counting person, I only know that till date the party has neither fixed any accountability nor taken any action against anyone in this matter. Courtesy: served media reports! Fair enough.
Now I feel scared.
The announcement of elections in (the State?)Jammu and Kashmir is a welcome step hailed by one and all. Good. We are joyous because we are sure the shackles of Babudom would be removed and the common people will surely, at least, have their voices heard. But I am scared because the disciplined party is facing rebellion each day; the latest one being the issue of ticket distribution in the ensuing elections: something that was considered to be a practice of another aged party only. Why is it so? The grapevine is full of various tell-tales, which we the common hear but do not speak.
My inner worry is: Will the history be going to repeat again? Is the disciplined party facing the tempest and God forbid, is it becoming a sinking ship with the unwanted load of too many undesired admissions? Frankly friends, neither I know nor I have the courage to accept any prediction.
But yes: it’s time for the grey matter people of the Think Tank and the warriors of the War Room to accept facts and take immediate remedial measures; well in time to avoid any catastrophe which otherwise may befall.
I remember that during the black and white days of our now extinct television, I saw a remarkable ad on Doordarshan that has etched deep on my mind. In that ad, a coconut is placed and a muscular man hits it with a big hammer. The coconut breaks into pieces. In the second scene, a helmet is placed on the coconut and again the hammer strikes it; breaking helmet but saving the coconut. And then a beautiful slogan is flashed on the screen:
Marzi hai aap ki!
Aakhir, sir hai aap ka!!
The million-dollar question is: who will bell the cat? Who has the courage to speak truth in the corridors of sycophancy? I, as an academician, am highly interested to see what happens next. Will the sinking ship be steered clear of the storm or will history prevail again?
Yeh to Ram Jaaney!
