A General in the fray
It is for the first time that a former Army Chief may contest election in Punjab. Earlier, Gen Rajinder Singh Sparrow (Retd) had successfully contested and won both state Assembly and parliamentary elections. But such success stories are few and far between. The challenge is formidable and soaked in high risk of losing both reputation and the election. It is, however, heartening that a person of such a stature and standing as Gen J. J Singh, will be dabbling in Punjab politics, despite the notoriety of politics and politicians, particularly in the region. Let us hope he gives a dignified fight and ushers in an era of honest politics in the state.
