BANDIPORA: All the displaced families temporarily residing in 87 relief camps have returned back to their homes besides road connectivity and drinking water and power supply has been restored in flood affected areas in district Bandipora.
It was revealed by the Relief Commissioner for North Kashmir, Muhammad Shafi Rather, while chairing district officers meeting convened to review the post flood situation and measures being taken up by the administration for relief, rehabilitation and restoration of public utilities in the district here on Thursday.
District Development Commissioner, Bandipora, Dr. Shah Faisal, SSP, Bandipora, Muhammad Shafi, ADC Bandipora, N.A Baba besides other district officers and engineers attended the meeting.
The DDC gave detailed resume of activities being taken up in flood affected areas for relief, rehabilitation and restoration of public assets in the district. He said that concerned revenue authorities have been directed to ensure speedy assessment of the damages for immediate financial assistance to the affected families.
The Deputy Commissioner informed that five deaths were recorded due to flood in the district and an ex-gratia of Rs 1.50 lakh was given to each NOK of deceased families. He said immediate relief of Rs 3.00 lakh has also been distributed among 50 affected families of Nusoo and Laharwalpora villages whose property damaged in the flood.
The Relief Commissioner said that 22 teams of officials are assessing the losses of various damages for early relief to the affected families. He said instructions were given to Chief Education Officer to ensure cleanliness and de-silting of 145 educational institutions affected due to floods within one week for making them functional. He also instructed concerned engineers to ensure filling up of breaches on the banks of river Jehlum, Nallah Madhumatti and Nallah Arin if any.
While reviewing the sector-wise losses, the meeting was informed that agriculture sector received a setback of over Rs 119 crore and Animal and Sheep Husbandry Rs 1.27 crore due to floods in the district.
The meeting was informed that 87 relief camps were set up for displaced families during flood and for the purpose 1300 quintals of rice, 100 quintals of Atta and Sugar respectively besides 10,000 blankets were provided to the affected families in the district.
He also gave directions for smooth and fast disbursement of compensation to the affected families. He said the assessment of crops and land losses should be finalized speedily so that affected people get compensation in accordance with the set procedures and as per the provisions of law.
