PRIDE OR SHAME
It is overwhelming to see 300 Safai Kramcharis of Jammu helping out their Srinagar counterparts to clear up the city of huge layers of mud and garbage, accumulated in the wake of recent floods. The deposits are so huge that these can’t be removed even by thousands of workers for days together. As a consequence, there is every apprehension of the city areas becoming breeding ground for epidemics.
Is it a matter of pride or shame for the non-governmental organisations, which have witnessed steep increase post militancy in the Kashmir Valley, not to organise ‘operation clean-up’ by roping in volunteers to save the fellow brethren from constant agony and disease?
