To rescue stranded Ladakhi citizens from Kashmir in wakeup of prevailing natural calamity, to strategize timely stocking of rations for Leh district and to assess the damages caused due to recent unprecedented rain in many villages of Leh district, an important meeting of LAHDC, Leh was held under the chairmanship of CEC, LAHDC, Leh Rigzin Spalbar in presence of all the Executive Councilors and Councilors at Council Secretariat today.
The meeting begin with one minute silence in respect of many precious human loss in Jammu and Kashmir and after discussing current situation in Kashmir particularly about Ladakhi citizens stuck in Srinagar, the meeting decided to send a team of councilor comprising of Councilor Chushot Gh. Abass Abadi, Councilor Bogdang Abdul Ali, Councilor Skurbuchan Dawa Tsering headed by Executive Councilor for Minority Affairs Mohd Shafi Lassu to Srinagar along with needed rations and one ambulance with a doctor. To accomplish the rescue/ relief operation successfully, CEC immediately sanctioned Rs. 5 lacs out of CEC Relief Fund.
Appreciating the outstanding efforts of religious organizations, police department and some NGOs of Leh for helping flood effected people in different possible ways, CEC assured all possible support from Council saying that it is the responsibility of LAHDC to save every Ladakhi people stranded in Kashmir adding that Council is ready to provide free transportation for Ladakhi people willing to come Leh and later all the councilors unanimously decided to donate their one day pay in state relief fund and also decided to cancel upcoming Ladakh Festival, 2014.
Earlier, Councilor Gh. Sydeen who recently came from Srinagar briefed the meeting about already saved Ladakhi people including students and possible places in Srinagar where Ladakhi citizens could stay.
For timely stocking of essential commodities with the remaining of only one month for closure of Srinagar – Leh national highway officially, CEC directed EC CAPD to keep in touch with concerned ministries and higher authorities so that stocking of rations for Leh district could not suffer due to natural calamity in valley.
Discussing about the recent unprecedented territorial rain in different regions of Leh district causing damages to the standing crops, irrigational canals and residential houses, CEC informed the meeting that all the SDMs and revenue staffs have been directed to make an assessment of the losses and based on their reports Council will explore relief. The meeting irrespective of political affiliation appealed individuals/groups to don’t panic people by giving exaggerated news in radio to gain political credits and appealed effected farmers to claim losses through their respective representatives.
