Girl with drug overdose admitted to GMC, boy commits suicide

JAMMU: In yet another shocker of drug abuse, a teenager girl was on Sunday rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC) in critical condition while a Class 11 student committed suicide in Sarwal colony by hanging himself.
The growing drug menace in the temple city has put police on toes with its top echelons asking questions from the ground staff especially in the wake of war declared by police chief against drug mafia.
According to well placed sources, last night a girl from old Jammu city area was admitted to the hospital due to alleged overdose of drugs.
“The girl was brought to the hospital and diagnosed of consuming overdose of drugs,” hospital sources said.
Sources said that the girl was shifted by one of her close relatives, adding, “the family had requested for not disclosing the name and reason to avoid social stigma.”
In another incident, a 17-year-old teenager allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his residence in Sarwal area falling under the jurisdiction of Bakshi Nagar Police Station.
According to police spokesman, the teenager, identified as Bhavya Sharma, son of Rajan Sharma, resident of Sarwal, was a student of Class 11.
He was found hanging in his room by the family members on Sunday morning.
Sources said that the boy was upset over low percentage of marks in preliminary class tests.
The spokesman said on getting information, a police party reached the spot and shifted the body to Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu, where after conducting autopsy it was handed over to its legal heirs for last rites. The Bakshi Nagar police has registered a case in this regard.
