JAMMU: In 2011, National Conference Patron and former Union Minister Farooq Abdullah and the then Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, alliance partners of Congress were approved for campaigning in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls.
Omar’s close friend and Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi had then played a key role in roping him for the tough job to garner votes for his party.
Now after joining hands with new alliance partner Akhilesh Yadav  of Samajwadi Party, Rahul Gandhi is yet to send a formal invite to his old pal Omar Abdullah to join him for the campaigning.
Now as the first phase of campaigning is drawing to close on Thursday, Omar is expected to join the bandwagon in the next rounds of campaigning.
So far both these leaders, Akhilesh and Rahul, have conducted joint road shows and addressed press briefings to put up a united front before the electorate.
In the initial phase of campaigning Omar Abdullah was himself occupied with the Budget session of the State Assembly but now he has been spending time in the state awaiting a formal call from his friend to join the campaign trail.
The understanding between the Congress and National Conference was evident during the recent budget session.
Ghulam Nabi Azad, playing key role behind the scenes on behalf of the Congress is expected to bring the young leaders together on one platform to sharpen the attack on BJP.
The triokia of Akhilesh Yadav, Rahul Gandhi and Omar Abdullah may prove to be a formidable opposition to BJP’s star campaigner Narendra Modi.
