“Law abiding citizens to get due respect; miscreants won’t be spared”
STATE TIMES NEWS
JAMMU: Vowing to tackle sternly the drug menace, Director General of Police Dr S.P Vaid on Sunday said that Jammu and Kashmir will not be allowed to become another ‘Udta Punjab’ with drug peddlers and their handlers enjoying field day.
“We are fully geared up to effectively deal with the drug menace and break the backbone of the drug racket in the State”, the DGP said at a felicitation function, organized by STATE TIMES on his elevation and appointment as the police chief.
Without making a mention of black-sheep in the police department, the DGP said that those hobnobbing with drug smugglers and attempting to provide them tactical support in carrying out their nefarious activities won’t be spared. He promised zero tolerance against drug menace, saying he would not tolerate any non-sense from within and outside the police organisation. “We won’t let J&K to become a part of the drug capital, Punjab”, he asserted.
For fighting the menace resolutely, the DGP sought support of the people, especially the civil society to foil the machinations of drug rackets, which are distributing drugs among the youth and exploiting them for their vested interest.
The DGP said that after assuming charge, he made it clear to his officers and the entire police force that the issue of tackling drug menace figures on top of his agenda and “we have to consolidate our grip and tighten the noose against drug peddlers”.
He said, “It is not only the police but every section of the civil society besides judiciary and medical fraternity to contribute in fighting drug menace.”
Dr Vaid said that State Police is fighting internal enemies and also the war triggered by the Pakistan, which is misleading the youth in Kashmir Valley. “We will try our best to normalise situation in Kashmir, which perhaps has improved a lot in the past few months,” said the DGP and lauded the role of police for facing the challenges. “It is only the Jammu and Kashmir Police, which apart from normal policing is fighting against all odds and facing challenges,” he added.
Dr Vaid also exhorted the police force to deal with people in a dignified manner at the check posts and address them as ‘Janab’ or ‘sir’.
