JKP Mahila Battalion celebrates International Women’s Day

JAMMU: As a part of International Women’s Day celebrations, Mahila Battalion of Jammu and Kashmir Police organised a cultural-cum-awareness programme at Battalion Headquarters Gulshan Ground here on Wednesday.
Chairperson, J and K Police Wives Welfare Association (PWWA), K. Vijaya Rajendra was the Chief Guest.
On the occasion, various speakers highlighted the importance of International Women’s Day and said that it recalls the courage and determination of women who have played an extra ordinary role in different fields of life. The Day emphasises all communities to work together and achieve gender equality for empowerment of women in the society.
Vijaya Rajendra said that women have a vital role in various fields of life and their empowerment is must for healthy Nation. She stressed to bring awareness among the women folk to eliminate harmful practices and various types of violence against them. Women have to work with a will to achieve gender equality in the society, she added.
Earlier, Commandant of Mahila Battalion, Anita Sharma said that the Battalion has been raised to cater the needs of women police to deal with various types of professional duties. She said that the function has been organized to recognize important accomplishments and contributions made by the great ladies, who have sacrificed their lives for the betterment of others.
Among others, the function was attended by PWWA members, senior police officers and women police personnel.
