JAMMU: Continuing with its protest against BJP Government over the issue of OROP implementation, Congress on Thursday held candle light march at Akhnoor, Khour and Doda.
A strong protest was held at Akhnoor led by former Minister and Congress Senior Vice President Sham Lal Sharma. A large number of party activists and ex-servicemen participated in the protest march over the issue of failure of Modi Government to implement One Rank One Pension besides its failures on various fronts.
Sham Lal leveled charges against Modi Government for hoodwinking the ex-servicemen and spreading falsehood over OROP and on various other vital commitments made to the people during the general elections in the country. He said that the ex-servicemen lodged strong protest and launched a decisive struggle to force the Modi Government to implement the OROP scheme which was already announced and sanctioned by the UPA Government in February 2014. However, the scheme was not implemented in toto and still the ex-servicemen are agitating and seeking parity and equality of pension of the same rank irrespective of the date of retirement, which clearly indicates that Modi Government is misleading the nation over the issue. He said that the treatment meted out to the family members of Ram Kishan Grewal is blot on the democracy and reflection of great arrogance of power and insensitive approach of Modi Government.
He also expressed grave concern over the border situation and the plight of border residents who have been the victim of the failure of the Modi government’s flip-flop policies towards Pakistan. He also accused Modi Government of total failure on all fronts and lashed out at the unprecedented price hike which has broken the back of poor and common man.
The Congress leaders and activists including ex-servicemen took out candle light protest in Doda City led by MLC and DCC President Naresh Gupta, MLC Sham Lal Bhagat and PCC Observer Pradeep Parihar besides Hanif Shah, Sanjay Manhas and Asif Gattu. A large number of protestors marched from Town Hall towards DC Office and culminated at Bus Stand Doda.
