JAMMU: Adding another feather to its cap, the University of Jammu on Saturday got ‘A plus’ National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) accreditation.
Earlier, the JU was designated with ‘A grade’ NAAC accreditation. With this ‘A plus’ NAAC standard the JU will get more UGC grants and global grading.
An eleven-member team from NAAC was reviewing the academic and administrative working of the University of Jammu.
The NAAC is an autonomous body established by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of India to assess and accredit institutions of higher education in the country. It is an outcome of the recommendations of the National Policy in Education (1986) which laid special emphasis on upholding the quality of higher education in India. To address the issues of quality, the National Policy on Education (1986) and the Plan of Action (POA-1992) advocated the establishment of an independent national accreditation body.  Consequently, the NAAC was established in 1994 with its headquarters at Bangalore.
Soon after the NAAC approval for the ‘A plus’ accreditation, congratulation calls started pouring in appreciating the role of Vice Chancellor, Registrar, Directors of various wings and other faculty members, in working hard to bring the JU at highest standards.
