Yashwant Sinha on Kashmir mission; ‘face saver for separatists’

SRINAGAR: Confirming the visit of former Union Minister for External Affairs Yashwant Sinha and other high profile Track-II activists to Kashmir, Member, Centre for Dialogue, Sushoba Arve on Monday said that the delegation is meeting a number of people in the Kashmir valley, reeling under unrest for the past over 105 days.
Sushoba Arve is reported to told a Srinagar based news agency that the Centre for Dialogue and Reconciliation had also brought a small group in the Kashmir valley in the month of August. “The group had also met different people in the Valley,” she said.
The so-called peace activists’ move is seen as a face-saver for embarrassed separatists who are finding themselves in Catch-22 situation with no end to the unrest and people subtly defying their diktat.
Quoting sources, the news agency reported that in an effort to initiate Tack-II diplomacy, the team has been assigned to take assessment of the present situation in the Valley and to present a to New Delhi. The team is likely to call on Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and other ministers. They may also meet various mainstream opposition leaders. The other members of the team include Jairam Ramesh, Rajya Sabha MP from Karnataka and former Union Minister for Rural Development, former Chairperson of the National Commission for Minorities and Chief Information Commissioner of India Wajahat Habibullah, former Air Vice Marshal, Bharat Bhushan, Journalist (Editor of Catch News) Kapil Kak, and Executive Director, Centre for Dialogue and Reconciliation Sushoba Arve.
