JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir made a wining start when they outclassed skilful side of Andhra Pradesh 5-1 in the opening game of the National Talent Search and Nurture (NTSN) at DPS Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh.
Skipper and goalkeeper, Shreyan Singh led the team with some super saves throughout the match. Ali Khan played his heart out to score two extraordinary goals while he missed penality chances. Two goals were netted in by Sambhav Koul and opening goal was scored by Vildan Gul, reports reaching here said. With today’s win, J and K have good chances to qualify for quarterfinals before which it will lock horns against Bihar on 30th August.
“These under-16 school boys were shortlisted after a rigorous selection process at cluster and district levels. Almost all the schools of Jammu, Samba and Kathua Districts were contacted to participate in this programme. But unfortunately only eight schools participated from Samba whereas only nine schools participated from Jammu. There was no participation from Kashmir region or other districts of Jammu region,” informed State Coordinator, Iqbal Singh, who is with the team at Ghaziabad.
He thanked the schools and the parents of all the players for allowing their talented wards to participate in the programme. They also informed that more games like badminton and basketball might be added to this programme in the current new session and requested all the schools to encourage the kids to participate in future such initiatives.
Earlier, a team 18 shortlisted football players from different schools of Jammu, Kathua and Samba Districts reached DPS Ghaziabad yesterday.
