JAMMU: Demanding regularisation, casual workers of Power Development Department started Kaam Chhoro Hartal in support of their long pending demands.
PDD casual workers under the banner of All Casual/ Need Based Workers Union Power Development Department assembled in front of the office of Chief Engineer EM and RE Wing, PDD, Jammu and started Kaam Chhoro Hartal for an indefinite period on account of the conceding of the long pending genuine demands of the workers.
PDD casual workers alleged that they have been working as need basis / casual labourer for the last two decades but the authorities have not shown concern for their regularisation so far in spite of best efforts to get these demands. Besides, the department, has not been able to pay the wages to the engaged workers while in the initial stages these engaged workers were paid. Workers have been facing many difficulties on day to day needs of their life and their families are facing starvation, General Secretary of the Union said.
“It is very unfortunate to mention here that the department is not taking any pains towards the miserable condition of the poor workers. The timely representations submitted to the authorities have not yielded any good results till date,” he added.
The agitating workers were demanding clearance of pending wages from Wages Head, regularisation policy, insurance policy and compensation to death/ handicapped workers.
