One student killed, 14 injured in accident

JAMMU: One student was killed and 14 others injured on Wednesday when the school bus they were travelling in turned turtle in Jammu District.
The bus, carrying students to the school, turned turtle near Chakbana village in Bishnah area in the outskirts of Jammu city, Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Simrandeep Singh said adding that Khushboo, a 6th class student was killed. Three of the seriously injured students have been rushed to the Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital at Jammu.
Simrandeep Singh, has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the accident. Sub Divisional Magistrate, South, will conduct an inquiry and submit report, Singh added.
Police said the cause of accident was yet to be known.
“We have made the school pay a compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the next of kins of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to those critically injured,” he said adding that the case for ex-gratia under passenger welfare also forwarded to government.
The seriously injured who admitted in Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital identified as Niharika, 5, daughter of Hardev, resident of Bishnah, Meena Sharma, 14, daughter of Roop Chand, resident if of Fatwal Bishnah, Nitika, 12, daughter of Papu Kumar, resident of Kheri Bishnah and Surekha Saini, 18, daughter of Sarwan Dass, resident of Bishnah. Meanwhile, PDP leader, Sudarshan Choudhary expressed anguish over the incident and demanded strong action against the accused.
