JWAM protests shortage of water, electricity

JAMMU: Jammu West Assembly Movement (JWAM) on Wednesday held a strong protest against the failure of Administration in providing water and uninterrupted power supply to the people of Jammu West Constituency.
Scores of people including women and children led by President JWAM Sunil Dimple staged a sit-in alleging that several localities in Jammu West Constituency have been deprived of power and potable water for the last many days.
Addressing the gathering, Sunil Dimple accused PDD Minister Dr Nirmal Singh for not paying heed towards the woes of people especially those residing in Lakkad Mandi, Janipur, Pacca Talab, Amphalla, Karan Nagar, Old Rehari, New Plot, Sarwal, Subash Nagar, etc. He said that power and water supply to these areas has been severely affected and people are facing numerous problems.
He sought immediate start on the work of Chenab-Akhnoor water project to quench Jammu’s water requirement.
He said that PHE officials are not responding to the complaints of people and several tube-wells catering to the needs of people have gone dry.
He also demanded that water should be supplied free of cost to the people.
He said the defunct Janipur grid station has totally failed to cater to the needs of the people and is totally paralyzed.
“Newly commissioned 10 MVA transformer at Manda Amphalla has also failed to give respite to people therefore a new receiving station of 50 MVA at Janipur is the need of the time to overcome the loading problem frequent power cuts”, he added. Rekha Devi, Parveen, Sharda Devi, Sapna Devi, Renu, Bimla Devi, Veena Devi, Sheela Devi, Kanta Bhan, Shashi Devi, Raji, Sanju Kumar, Daleep Kumar, Baldev Singh, Sham Lal, Dimpy, Rishi, Rahul, Ramesh Chander, Rocky, Krishan Lal, Kuldeep, Polu Kumar, Gulu Ram, Tarsem and Rajeev Rattan also participated in the protest.
