Infant among 5 killed, 42 injured in road mishaps

JAMMU: A nine months old baby girl, three women (including a tourist from Maharashtra ) and a man were killed and 42 others injured in separate road accidents in various parts of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday.
According to a report, nine month minor girl died and 27 others were injured when a bus skidded off the road at Garhi near Chack Morh National Highway in District Udhampur.
According to the reports, the bus (JK02M-2449) on its way from Katra to Udhampur, on reaching near Chack Morh in Garhi, skidded off the road as driver lost control.
Police along with locals launched rescue operation and took the injured to District Hospital Udhampur and Army Hospital Udhampur. Deputy Commissioner Udhampur Dr. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary and SSP Udhampur also reached the spot and took stock of the situation.
The injured persons have been identified as Pardeep Singh (27) son of Raj Singh of Katra, Rohit (20) son of Gopal Krishan of Sinthakran, Geeto Devi (42) wife of Shiv Kumar of W.No 17 Udhampur, Ishar Dass (42) son of Faqir Chand, Dolat Ram (44) son of Pream Chand of Mand, Kaka Ram (34) son of Rattan Lal of Ladda, Sunak Singh (30) son of Puran Singh of Dubi Gali, Surjeet Singh (25) son of Chain Singh of Dubi Gali, Rakesh Singh (19) son of Baldev Singh of M.H Road Udhampur, Mukesh Sharma (22) son of Pawan Kumar Sharma of Ghora Nalla, Parshotam Singh (19) son of Puran Singh of Pancheri, Dalbir Singh (27) son of Badri Nath of Dubi Gali, Hari Raj (53) son of Amar Nath of Seenthakra, Amit Khatri (35) son of Vinod Khatri of Nepal at present Jakhani, Govindi Devi (60) wife of Netar Shaen of Haldcni, Nishu Devi (25) wife of Sudesh Kumar of Ghordi and Kul Rattan (47) son of Anant Ram of Barmen.
The injured shifted to Military Hospital Udhampur include Sukhdev Singh (38) Veer Singh of Khanikote Mahore, Gudoo Devi (38) wife of Sukhdev Singh of Khanikote Mahore, Kundan Singh (38) son of Ram Singh Uttrakhand, Laxmi Devi (35) wife of Kundan Singh of Uttrakhand, Santosh alias Rogi(56) wife of Attar Singh, Deepak Kumar (12) son of Attar Singh, Kusam (28) wife of Deepak, Ashish (12) son of Deepak Kumar All of Delhi Cantt., Poonam Sharma (21) daughter of Krishan Sharma of Reasi. Whereas one Poonam, 9 month old daughter of Sukhdev Singh of Khanikote Mahore, was declared dead. Rehambal Police has registered the case.
In another mishap, three persons, including two women, were killed when a truck turned turtle and fell on their car on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in Ramban District. The truck (PB06K-2489), which was on its way from Jammu to Srinagar, skidded off the road, turned turtle and fell on the parked WagonR car (JK03B-9666) on the highway near Nashri belt of Ramban District, police said.
The victims died on the spot and have been identified as Mahinder Kour wife of Deeraj Singh resident of Digiana, Jammu; Pushpinder Kour wife of Rattan Singh and the driver of the car Sukhwinder Singh son of Hukam Singh resident of Katmoro, Anantnag (Mattan), they said.
Police and locals rescued the passengers from the ill fated vehicle and shifted them to Emergency Hospital Batote where driver succumbed to his injuries. In another accident, a Tempo traveller (JK02AP-6395) which was on its way from Jammu to Rajouri rolled down near Thallen causing injuries to seven passengers. The injured were identified as Rahul Sharma son of Kewal Krishan resident of Nowshera, Siaz son of Abdul Gani resident of Batmala Jammu, Poonam Jamwal wife of Rakesh Singh resident of Jammu, Mohd Zamil son of Ibrahim resident of Rajouri, Ghulam Nabi son of Abdul Rehman resident of Rajouri, Adbul Gani son of Mohd Maki resident of Jammu and Amandeep Singh son of Inderjeet Singh resident of Jammu.
In Srinagar, a tourist from Maharashtra was killed and eight others injured when their vehicle turned turtle near the famous hill resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir, police said on Monday. The vehicle, carrying a group of tourists from Maharashtra, turned turtle while negotiating a blind curve at Sharabi Morh, 50 kms from here, on Sunday, resulting in on-the-spot death of a woman Aneesa Begum, a police spokesman said. He said eight other tourists travelling in the vehicle, bearing Maharashtra registration number, were injured in the accident and were hospitalised.
