Distribution of assistive devices, cultural show, rallies mark World Disability Day

DODA: To mark the celebration of World Disability Day, a colourful programme for children with special needs (CWSN) was on Wednesday organised by Education Department Doda in collaboration with District Disability and Rehabilitation Centre Doda and District Social Welfare Doda at Sports Stadium here .

Additional Deputy Commissioner Imam-ud-din was the Chief Guest on the occasion and the program was organized under the umbrella of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) under Ujala Society.

District Co-coordinator Inclusive Education for Disabled (IED) Kismat Singh while speaking on the occasion revealed that the children with special needs are taken care of under Ujalla society. A three days compulsory training in learning disability and Braille is imparted to the teachers and 50 teachers in these two categories were trained this year, he said.

He further added that a three days capacity building of 100 resources persons was also conducted this year across the district besides a parental survey cum parental counselling under Inclusive Education for Disabled(IED) was also conducted across the district in which 900 members were counselled this year and 1,662 children were identified for assistive devices. Revealing about various health assessment camps, Singh said 1,112 children participated in various camps held across the district, out of which 509 children were identified for assistive devices and 595 devices were provided to them.

For reaching out to the crippled and bed ridden children under this scheme(IED) eight such children have been identified, besides physiotherapy of 23 children were conducted in collaboration with CMO Doda and cleft surgery of 72 children were conducted in collaboration with Amandeep Hospital Amritsar ,he further informed.

Chief Education Officer Ayaz Mughal and Imam-ud-din also addressed the gathering.

A dance competition and a painting competition among the CWSN was also held in the programme. Later on a rally of these special children carrying posters and placards was flagged off by Chief Education officer Doda from sports stadium which after passing through Doda town culminated at Dak Bunglow Doda

District Disability and Rehabilitation Officer Doda Dr. Baber Ali Khan, representative of District Social Welfare Officer Doda, parents of the CWSN among others participated in the celebration of World Disability Day.

RAJOURI: Under the direction of Chief Medical officer Rajouri Dr. Rajeev Sharma, BMO Darhal celebrated World Disability Day on Wednesday at Darhal by involving community members, PRIs, school teachers NGOs and other local leaders.

Speaking on the occasion BMO Darhal, Dr Iqbal Malik talked about the theme for 2014 ‘Sustainable Development: The Promise of Technology’. The meeting had also invited some disabled persons .He gave a presentation and talked on various schemes launched by the Government for the welfare of disabled persons, especially The Rights of Persons with Disabilities Bill, 2014

He said that the person with disability have the right of equality, education and employment and should not be discriminated

On the said topic Dr Bilal Matoo and Dr samena Malik Medical Officer SDH Darhal also spoke

Meanwhile World Disabled Day was celebrated by All Jammu and Kashmir Handicapped Welfare Association in which a rally was organised under the leadership of District Vice President of the Association Vinod Sharma.

In his address to the gathering, Vinod said that Government of Jammu and Kashmir has not given due attention towards the grievances and demands of the handicapped people adding that such celebrations of the day become meaningful only if their problems are addressed and they are given all what is provided under the rules. A deputation of the association also met SDM Nowshera Deepti Uppal and handed over a memorandum of demands.
