International Day of People with Disability observed

JAMMU: To commemorate the 22nd International Day of Disabled People and spread the message of this year theme ‘Sustainable Development: The Promise of Technology’ diverse activities related to the day were carried out by specially-able children at the Amar Singh Club, here on Wednesday with enthusiasm.
Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Shantmanu showed his support by joining the celebration as Chief Guest on the occasion along with Conservator Officer for Forests, Sameer Bharati, Secretary Indian Red Cross Jammu Region, R C Puri, Secretary Amar Singh Club, Siddhart Sharma, Chairman Pelican Cables, Hemu Karki Art of Living instructor, B.B Raina Educationist, Akhila Magotra, Secretary FIBDO, Vikrant Dogra, President Nirvana Academy, Hitesh Badyal, Ashq Malik and Vikul Gupta Chairman State Analyst and Arivan Group.
The event was organised jointly by Disabled Care Foundation, Nirvana Academy and Mind Scape Environmental and Educational Trust in collaboration with the Amar Singh Club Jammu.
Event was supported by Indian Red Cross Society Jammu region, Little Millennium Play way Schools along with FIBDO, The strings, SNS fitness Club, JMU Plus Social Networking Partner and Darpan Beauty Parlour.
Breaking down disability barriers to celebrate the day as many as 45 children from various special schools of Jammu namely St. John’s Rehabilitation Centre Mandal, Sahara Special School, ASHA/AWWA Special School, J and K Samaj Kalyan Kendra, Aasra Special School and Sahyog India School displayed skills of their talent and spellbound everyone with their performances. All the participants were awarded medals along with certificate of participation on the occasion.
The program started with the lighting of lamp by the Chief Guest followed by the welcome address by Umesh Sharma Chairperson Disabled Care Foundation. Umesh highlighted issues lack of infrastructural facilities and participation of civic society for uplift of such children. The celebration of the day was comprised of the two events namely “Guldasta of Display of talent” by specially able children and “Saluting the Star of Person with Disability” with Award of Honour for their distinct achievements in their respective fields.
15 persons with disabilities were also honoured on the occasion who has achieved a distinction in field of activities. They included Mohinder Badyal, Rahul Kumar, Irshad Hussain, Sanjay Kumar, Suraj Singh, Nek Ram, Devidayal, Raj Kumar Gupta, Poonam Sharma, Akarshak Sharma, Narinder Singh, Vivek Khajuria and Rohit Sharma.
President Nirvana Academy, Hitesh Badyal presented vote of thanks. Prominent among the others were Naresh Sharma Chairman Strings, Shobha jee, Nishant Sharma, Rita Gupta, Aarti Mahajan and Ashwani Jojhra.
