J-K excels in National Dragon Boat meet

JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir clinched five medals, including three gold, in the just concluded National Dragon Boat Championship held at Bilaspur in neighbouring Himachal Pradesh.
While gold medals came in men’s 500 meters, mixed 500 meters and men’s 250 meters events, the state won bronze medals in men’s 1,000 meters and mixed 1,000 meters races, a handout issued by the J and K Dragon Boat Association here on Tuesday informed.
Considering their performance in the nationals, the State dragon boat team has qualified for the forthcoming 35th National Games to be held in Kerala next year.
In the meantime, General Secretary of the Association, Farooq Ahmad, Muzafar Ahmed Shah and Shabir Ahmad Rather successfully attended the Grade-I International Dragon Boat technical course held under the guidance of chairman of the technical and competition committee of International Dragon Boat Federation, Mike Thomas.
Meanwhile, President of the Association, M.S Punoo congratulated the team for their outstanding performance in the nationals and subsequent berth in the National Games.
