STATE TIMES NEWS
JAMMU: A mass awareness cum dosing camp regarding the prevention of parasitic diseases in sheep and goats was organised in a remote village Barga of district Jammu in which about 2800 sheep and goats were provided de-worming medicines.
The camp was organised as per the instructions of Director Sheep Husbandry Jammu Dr. Sant Ram with an objective to create awareness among the breeders regarding improvement of livestock by cost effective production and better returns.
In the camp, the breeders emphasised the need for organizing conferences regarding the difficulties faced by the breeders like comparatively low increments in pricing of sheep products, fast shrinking resources and harsh life conditions of shepherds. The progressive breeders appreciated the steps taken by the Sheep Husbandry Department which is evident by the significant increase in sheep population recorded in the state resulting in increased wool and mutton production on which lakhs of tribals, small and marginal farmers and landless labourers are directly dependent for their livelihood. In the end, Haji Choudhary Junaid, a progressive breeder expressed sincere gratitude to the team of doctors and staff for organising such camps in the far flung areas of Jammu.
