Militant killed in 16-day long search operation
Handwara: After a sixteen day long search operation, Army Tuesday managed to neutralize a militant in Wadarbala forest area of Handwara in frontier district Kupwara.
Army had launched a combing operation in Wadarbal forest on October 13 this month, after some militants attacked a patrolling party killing an army soldier Sahib Singh from 30 Rashtriya Rifles.
Locals told CNS that from past 16 days they frequently heard gun shots coming out from the direction of forest area. Reports said that besides SOG Handwara, Army soldiers from 6,21,30 and 31 RR who were part of the searching operation confronted with the militants during afternoon hours and in the ensuing encounter, one unidentified militant was killed while an army soldier also reportedly suffered injuries.
Defence sources added that search operation would continue till all the militants in the forest are not neutralized. (CNS)
