BARAMULLA: In light of the government order with regard to immediate distribution of relief among the people whose houses and crops were damaged due to flood and heavy rains, an officers meeting was convened by the District Development Commissioner Baramulla Dr. Farooq Ahad Lone here on Thursday.
The meeting was attended by MLA Sopore Mohammad Ashraf Ganai, MLA Sangrama Basharat Bukhari, ADC Baramulla, concerned SDM’s Tehsildars, Kissan Board Members and senior officers from various departments.
The concerned departments were directed to speed up work and ensure that the sufferers are provided relief without delay.
The meeting was informed that 48,571 hectares of cultivated land was damaged due to recent floods and heavy rains in Baramulla District, involving a loss of Rs. 298.61 crore.
The meeting was informed that the Department of Agriculture has prepared a loss assessment report of Rs. 32.92 crore to be paid to the farmers as relief. The damaged include Paddy, Maize, pulses vegetables and fodder.
Similarly, the Department of Horticulture was directed to submit the report regarding damage to fruit crop in the district so that the relief is distributed among the fruit growers, accordingly. It was given out that the fruit crop over an area of 30,000 hectres of land was damaged due to floods and rains in the district.
The Assistant Director CAPD was directed to implement the government order in letter and spirit with regard to the distribution of six months free ration to the people @50 kg each family for the first month and 35 kg for another five months.
The Animal and Sheep Husbandry Department was asked to furnish detailed reports so that the affected families are covered under the relief package.
