JAMMU: Police seized 62 kg poppy straw in two incidents. In the first instance 40 kg of poppy straw was recovered in Gurha Morh, Bakshi Nagar area of the city while 22kg of the narcotics was recovered from a load carrier in Pulwama.
One person was on Tuesday arrested after police seized 40 kilogram of poppy straw from his possession in Gurha Morh, Bakshi Nagar area of the city while 22kg of the narcotics was recovered from a load carrier in Pulwama. As part of the Operation Sanjeevni launched by SSP Jammu, a police team of Police Station Bakshi Nagar laid a Naka at Gurha Morh, Bakshi Nagar and intercepted one car bearing registration number JK02J-6672 driven by Sheetal Singh, son of Joginder Singh, resident of Gurha Bakshi Nagar. During the search, police recovered approximately 40 kgs of poppy straw from his possession, police said. The accused was arrested and booked under FIR No. 118/16 section 8/15 NDPS Act, police said, adding investigation is on.
Meanwhile, Pulwama Police recovered 22 kilograms of poppy straw in Khamray area of Pulwama. Acting on specific information, Pulwama Police laid a naka at Khamray crossing and intercepted a load carrier bearing registration number JK13C-1702. On checking, three bags containing poppy straw weighting 22kgs were recovered from the load carrier. A Case FIR number 253/2016 under section 15/18 NDPS Act registered in Police Station Pulwama. The driver fled away from the spot and efforts are on to arrest him.
Meanwhile Police on Tuesday arrested a drug peddler and recovered 12 Kg of poppy straw from his possession. Acting on a tip off, Police raided the house of one Tariq Ahmad Lone, son of Mohammad Ramzan, resident of Tungdona Yaripora Kulgam and recovered 12 Kg of poppy straw from his possession.
A case vide FIR No. 83/2016 under Section 8/15 NDPS Act was registered and investigation was taken up.
