5 J&K Climbers in North Zone team

JAMMU: As many as five top J&K Climbers have been included in the North Zone (NZ) team for the National Sport Climbing Championship slated to be held at Bengaluru from December 21 to 24.
While four climbers, Shilpa Charak, Kafeel Ul Haq, Arun Deep Singh and Ankit Singh have been selected on the basis of their performance in the NZ competition, Shivani Charak got a direct entry in the Nationals event as she was representing the country in the 19th Asian Games, Hangzhou when the zonal competition took place.
It may be mentioned here that J&K team had given a creditable performance in the North Zone Sport Climbing Competition winning a Gold medal, 4 Silver and 3 Bronze medals.
“Besides a Gold and a Bronze medal in Lead and Speed Climbing by Arun Deep Singh Kafeel Ul Haq had won bagged two Silver medals in Speed climbing and Bouldering and a Bronze medal in Lead climbing. Similarly, Shilpa Charak had bagged two silver medals in Speed and Lead climbing and Ankit had grabbed a Bronze medal in Speed Climbing,” informed senior vice president of MAJK, Ram Khajuria.
Now, Shivani Charak and Kafeel Ul Haq shall compete in all the three forms of climbing in the National Championship, Arun Deep Singh shall compete in Lead Climbing and Bouldering. However, Shilpa Charak and Ankit Singh shall compete only in Lead and Cpeed climbing respectively.
Meanwhile, Shivani Charak has returned to India after participating in an Olympic Qualifying Competition in Indonesia in which, despite her best efforts, she could not qualify for the Paris Olympics-2024.
However, she shall remain at Delhi for almost a month for practice and training on the international standard climbing walls so as to prepare herself adequately for the forthcoming National Championship to be held at Bengaluru from December 21 to December 24.
