400 children to participate in Jammu Marathon on March 19: Mohanti

JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir Police is organising State Level Marathon ‘Run for Fun’ on 19th March, 2017 at Jammu.
The Marathon being organised under Civic Action Progrmme is expected to be participated by a large number of people from different age groups.
This was disclosed by Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Armed, L. Mohanti, at a press conference held at Police Headquarters (PHQ) here on Thursday.
He said that various departments and organisations like Higher and School Education, Youth Services and Sports, Industries and Commerce, Jammu Bar Association, Press Club, Amar Singh Club, besides private firms and agencies are participating in the event.
ADGP said that 400 children from down trodden and remote areas of different districts of state like Baramulla, Budgam, Shopian, Kupwara, Bandipore, Rajouri, Poonch, Doda and Kathua are also expected to participate in the State level event. Arrangements for their boarding, lodging and transport have been made by JKP.
Mohanti, said that counters established at different battalion headquarters have already started registration. Besides Control Room at Gulshan Ground is also making registration of the participants.
Mohanti further disclosed that having different categories, the run would start from Police Sports Stadium Gulshan Ground. Full Marathon open male category would start their run with first flag off ceremony at 6:30 AM and would return after covering a distance of more than 42 kms via Sidhra Bridge Crossing. Half Marathon for males and females would have to run a distance of 21 kms. which would start at 6:40 AM from the venue up to Bajalta Crossing and back. Similarly under 14 boys and girls category would start their run from the venue and cover a distance of 6 and 8 kms. respectively, Mohanti added.
To facilitate the participants, buses will be made available at different places in Jammu City including Satwari Chowk, Talab Tiloo Bohri, Radio Station Parade, Narwal Chowk, Gurbaksh Nagar via Jewel, Rehari Amphalla and Shaheedi Chowk. These buses will depart from their respective points at 4:45 AM. Prize distribution will be held at 10:30 AM at the venue in presence of Chief Guest. Main attractions of the rally will be cultural programme, band display, and medical check- up for senior citizens, added the ADGP.
