ZPHQ Jammu organises symposium on ‘Implementation of New Criminal Laws’

JAMMU: In a significant stride towards enhancing the understanding and implementation of new criminal laws, the Zonal Police Headquarters (ZPHQ) Jammu organized a symposium on the implementation of new criminal laws, including the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA), at the Police Auditorium, Gulshan Ground, Jammu.
The event was graced by B.R. Gupta, Director Prosecution (Retd.), who consented to be the Chief Guest, and the Divisional Commissioner of Jammu, Ramesh Kumar, who was the Guest of Honour.
The symposium commenced with a welcome address by SDPO Gandhi Nagar and witnessed enthusiastic participation from law enforcement officers, legal experts, academicians, and students, highlighting collaborative efforts to adapt to the evolving legal landscape.
The symposium was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, B.R. Gupta, who emphasized the critical importance of staying abreast of the latest amendments in criminal laws to ensure effective policing and justice delivery.
In his keynote address, he underscored the role of continuous learning and training for police personnel in implementing these new legal provisions.
A series of insightful sessions were conducted during the symposium, covering various aspects of the new criminal laws: Presentation on BSA by Rohit Tidyal, Senior Prosecuting Officer, DPO Jammu, Session by Faculty from the Faculty of Law, Jammu University, Session by Faculty from Women’s College, Parade, Presentation on BNS by Himanshu Gupta, Senior Prosecuting Officer, ZPHQ Jammu Zone. Questions and Discussion Session led by SDPO Gandhi Nagar on the impact of new laws in public life.
The sessions involved a comprehensive analysis of the recent changes in criminal laws and their implications for law enforcement agencies, focusing on; How the new laws will affect daily policing activities, investigation procedures, and interaction with the public. Examination of the legal framework supporting the new laws and strategies for effective enforcement and the Identification of potential challenges in implementing the new laws and proposing practical solutions to address these issues.
Divisional Commissioner Jammuaddressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of the new criminal laws in enhancing the justice system.
ADGP Jammu Zone Anand Jain reiterated ZPHQ Jammu’s commitment to fostering a culture of continuous learning and adaptation among its personnel to uphold the rule of law and ensure justice for all.
Jain said that these new laws will contribute to making our society more peaceful and crime-free, and will enhance the police’s accountability, transparency, responsibility, and trustworthiness.
Prominent dignitaries in attendance included Vikram Sharma president of Bar Association Jammu, Sachin Kumar, DC Jammu, Dr. Sunil Gupta, DIG JSK , Dr. Hasseb Mugal, DIG Traffic Jammu, Sarah Rizvi, DIG Armed /IR , Dr Vinod Kumar, SSP Jammu and concerned officials from various law enforcement and academic institutions.
The symposium concluded with the felicitation of key speakers, including Rohit Tidyal, Himanshu Gupta, professors from the Faculty of Law, a student from Women’s College, Parade, the Guests of Honour, and the Chief Guest by ADGP Jammu Zone. The event wrapped up with a vote of thanks by SP South Jammu.
The symposium was participated from various officials, including, DyCOs of CAPF and Armed Battalions posted in Jammu, DySP rank officers from different wings posted in Jammu, Inspectors and Sub-Inspectors, Director FSL, All SHOs and IOs from police stations in District Jammu, Officials from ZPHQ, RPHQ, and DPO Jammu, Personnel from DPL Jammu, CMO and staff from GMC Jammu, All SDMs, Jail Superintendents and other jail officials, Officials from Prosecution Services.
