JAMMU: MLA Jammu East Yudhvir Sethi raised concern in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly over the continued non-functioning of Government Degree College (GDC) Sidhra and the shifting of students to MAM College, Jammu.

Highlighting the difficulties faced by students, Sethi questioned the delay in making the college fully operational and sought clarity from the government on the timeline for restoring normal academic activities at the institution.
Speaking during the session, Sethi said that the prolonged uncertainty has caused inconvenience to students, many of whom have been compelled to travel longer distances after being shifted to MAM College.
“Students of Sidhra and adjoining areas were promised better educational infrastructure, but the ground reality reflects a lack of progress,” he stated, urging the administration to prioritise the issue.
The MLA also criticised the National Conference-led government, alleging that higher education infrastructure was not receiving adequate attention.
He remarked that delays in completing academic facilities and ensuring proper functioning of GDC Sidhra undermine the interests of youth and hamper access to quality education.
Sethi called upon the authorities to address infrastructural gaps, and ensure that students are able to continue their studies without disruption at GDC Sidhra.
During his intervention, Sethi emphasised that education remains a key pillar for development and that the government must adopt a proactive approach in resolving institutional challenges.
He demanded a detailed response regarding the reasons behind the non-functioning of GDC Sidhra and the steps being taken to restore classes at the campus.
The issue drew attention from several members in the House, as concerns over educational facilities and student welfare continue to remain a significant subject of discussion. Sethi reiterated that timely action would not only ease the burden on students but also strengthen the overall education system in the Jammu East.
