Youth commits suicide by jumping into Chenab

BHADARWAH: Suicide is on the rise in Doda as in a recent incident, a young Forest Guard allegedly committed suicide by jumping into river Chenab from main bridge at Pul Doda on Sunday.
According to reports, a youth who seems to be in his early twenties suddenly climbed the railing of Pul Doda Bridge and giving the passerby no time to react jumped into Chenab.
Reports said that, people present on the bridge immediately raised an alarm and informed the police. A team of police and seluthes of Civil Defence reached the spot and started rescue operation.
The man in his early twenties and a Forest Guard by profession has been identified as Manjeet Singh(24) son of Jagjeet Singh resident of Saw Mohalla, Doda.
When connected SSP Doda Shabir Ahmed Khatana confirmed the incident and said that according to preliminary investigation, 24 years old Forest Guard was a drug addict and had recently returned from Jammu after treatment for his addiction.
“The body was fished out from Chenab by the rescue team. We are investigating all the angels and have started inquest proceedings under section 174 CrPC at Police Station Doda,” SSP added.
