aapNew Delhi: Two months after its formation, Yogendra Yadav and Prashant Bhushan-led Swaraj Abhiyaan today launched a farmers’ movement, its first such public initiative.

Yadav and Bhushan, who were expelled from AAP for rebelling against the party chief Arvind Kejriwal, said the movement ‘Jai Kisan Andolan’ demands repeal of amendments to the land acquisition Bill among others.

“The demands of Jai Kisan Andolan include withdrawal of the land bill, introduction of a legislation guaranteeing minimum income to farmers and a comprehensive, assured and adequate compensation against natural calamity,” the group said addressing a press conference here.

Yadav said the movement aims at “reshaping the country’s future” through including disparate sections such as farmers, urban citizens and the youth.

“In the first phase of the movement, our volunteers will fan out in villages in various states including Bihar, West Bengal, Maharashtra etc, and reach out to the farmers and establish a dialogue with them to understand their problems and issues,” the group said in a statement.

In the second phase, there would be a “tractor march” from Punjab which would reach the Parliament during Monsoon Session on August 10 after covering Uttar Pradesh.
