NEW DELHI: MoS PMO Dr Jitendra Singh on Sunday said that government officials will also participate in the celebrations concerning ‘International Day of Yoga’ along with other people drawn from different walks of life.

He dispensed this information while presiding over a meeting held here to discuss the arrangements for observing ‘International Day of Yoga’ on 21st June.

Pertinent to mention that while Prime Minister Narendra Modi will himself participate in the Yoga Day programme in New Delhi, the various union ministers will be simultaneously participating in the programmes in different States and cities across the country.

Singh said, the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has sent a list of government officials of different seniorities who will join the mass Yoga session on Sunday morning at Rajpath. At the same time, he added, the Grih Kalyan Kendra (GKK), which is associated with DoPT, will provide 400 participants for the event.

Even as the Ministry of AYUSH is making arrangements for the mass Yoga session at Rajpath, Dr Jitendra Singh said, the official participants offered by DoPT will reach the venue by their own conveyance and park their vehicles at the designated parking areas close to the venue. For GKK participants, however, buses will be arranged by the authorities of the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, New Delhi.

At the meeting, which was attended among others by Secretary AYUSH Nilanjan Sanyal and Secretary DoPT Sanjay Kothari, Singh observed that the event planned for 21st June will carry bigger aura and glory than many a national festival because while the International Yoga Day programme will be inspired by the fountainhead source in New Delhi, its reflection will be witnessed not only across India, but also in different parts of the world. He said, this is perhaps for the first time in the history of United Nations that the resolution moved in the UN General Assembly by India under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for observing International Day of Yoga was spontaneously adopted by a record number of 177 countries. This not only marks a universal acknowledgement of the virtues of Yoga but also stands out as one of the most brilliant highlights of the first one year of the Modi government in power, he added.

Singh hoped that with the number of participants expected to cross the figure of 30000 to 40000, the event on 21st June may go down in the books of world records as the largest ever Yoga session held so far.
