UDHAMPUR: Wrestler Abdul Gani of Mallerkotla in Punjab clinched 17th Annual Malhar Kesari Dangal 2015 by defeating wrestler Jagroop of Amritsar. Dangal was organised by Malhar Dangal Committee in collaboration with J and K Indian Style Wrestling Association (JKISWA) at village Malhar, Tehsil and district Udhampur.
The event was held under the overall supervision of President JKISWA, Shiv Kumar Sharma and Devinder Kumar (Pappu).
In all, 65 bouts were played and around 125 wrestlers from within and outside the State i.e Punjab, Harayana, Delhi and UP participated.
Minister for Finance and Information Technology, Pawan Gupta was the Chief Guest who distributed cash prizes among the winner and runner-up wrestlers.
Shiv Kumar Sharma, who is also Treasurer Indian Style Wrestling Association of India and President Senior Citizens Welfare Forum, Katra presided over the function.
President District Udhampur Indian Style Wrestling Association Varinder Badyal and Senior BJP leader Raj Kumar Buccha were the Guests of Honour.
Other prominent persons present were Sarpanch Rehmat Ali, Sarpanch Balwan Singh, ex-Sarpanch Pawan Kumar Sharma, Naresh Kumar (Pappu Lakri) and Mohd. Asraf.
Gani was awarded cash prize of Rs 20,000 by Pawan Gupta, Shiv Kumar Sharma and Devinder Kumar while runner-up Jagroop was awarded cash prize of Rs 15,000 by Varinder Kumar, Raj Kumar Buccha and Naresh Kumar (Pappu Lakri).
The second main bout between Bhupinder of Ajnala and Amit of Guru Hanuman Akhara Delhi ended in a draw and both the wrestlers were jointly awarded with Rs 21,000. Third bout played between Lallu of Bajranfi Akhara Jammu and Lalli of Garh Shanker in Punjab also ended in a draw and both the wrestlers were jointly awarded with cash prize of Rs 15,000. Fourth bout played between Ajay Sharma of Landen Power House Udhampur and Gunga of Ludhiana also ended in a draw.
Members and technical officials who helped for the smooth conduct of this event included Devinder Kumar (DK), Sarpanch Subash Chander Sharma, Om Paul, ex-Sarpanch Pawan Kumar Sharma, Beli Ram (President), Kassi Choudhary, Hamid Khan, Girdhari Lal, Yog Raj, Ravi Kumar, Benia Ahmed, Rattan Lal, Bushan Kumar, Govind Sharma, Naresh Kumar (Pappu Lakri), Om Parkash Verma, Rajinder Kumar, Varinder Badyal, Mohd. Fareed, Captain Retired Dhiyan Singh, Raj Singh and Murli Dhar (Muna).
Others Results: Bittu of Delhi beat Palla of HP, Jatinder of Ludhiana beat Subba of Ajnala, Naiz Ali of Domana Akhara Jammu defeated Rinku of Delhi, Yeshbir Fouji of Phagwara outplayed Rajan of Baranasi(U.P), Javed of Meerut trounced Rajesh of J and K Police of Jindrah, Laikat Ali of Panthal downed Raju of Delhi, Gopal Sharma of Jindarh blanked Kapil Dev of HP, Salman of Chopra Shop Udhampur overpowered Sonu of Kathua, Subash of Chopra Shop defeated Baboo of Jindrah and Sonu of Meerut beat Mustaq of Domana Akhara.
