World Diabetes Day commemorated at MIER

JAMMU: A poster making and slogan writing competition in connection with World Diabetes Day was organised at MIER College of Education.
On the occasion, Dr. Arun K Gupta, Chairman MIER Group of Institutions was the Chief Guest, who inaugurated the exhibition of slogans and posters prepared by the students on the theme of ‘Precaution, Symptoms, Causes and Cure of Diabetes’. About 200 students participated in the competition and prepared informative posters and slogans.
The judges for the competition were Dr. H.R Shan, Head Centre for Educational Research, MIER, Angela Gadroo, QAO MIER and Monika Marwaha, Assistant Professor, B.Ed.
Sonia Dewan won the first prize, Vasudha bagged second prize and Sanjana Manchanda along with Vaishali Misra were declared third jointly whereas Mukesh Sharma was given consolation prize.
Dr. Renu Gupta, Director MIER, Dr. Adit Gupta, Joint Director MIER, HoDs of all the wings along with the faculty and the students of the college also took a round of the exhibition and commended the efforts of the students. The display was greatly appreciated by the visitors.
Dr. Gupta conveyed the message of Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh, who also happens to be an illustrious alumnus of the institution on the occasion of World Diabetes Day. He also recollected Dr. Singh’s earlier visits to the institution on this day to conduct various programmes on Diabetes.
Dr. Gupta emphasised that the young are more prone to Diabetes due to sedentary lifestyle and wrong food habits. He called upon the teacher trainees to play a major role as key change agents for generating awareness about the disease among the masses and spread the message in their respective practicing schools and the community.
He also appreciated the work done by the Diabetes Care Foundation in Jammu Region and called for celebrating the Diabetes Day synchronising it with Children’s Day as we must protect the young children from Diabetes for future development and welfare of our country.
The exhibition generated awareness regarding Diabetes and its management of which most people are unaware. The programme was conducted under the supervision of Komal Sharma, Convener Co curricular activities committee of the college.
