Finally, the squad of 15 players is ready for the World Cup cricket tournament, commencing on February 14 in Australia and New Zealand. This led to the ritualised sarcastic comments of all sorts over the selection criteria. After all, when everything is said and done, our players must concentrate on pragmatic strategies to repeat the 2011 win – which is, on the face of it, a difficult but not an impossible task.
The selectors must have cogitated all the pluses and minuses while selecting the team for the World Cup. Yet, Yuvraj Singh’s omission and Messrs Stuart Binny and Ajinkya Rahane’s inclusion have come as an unpleasant surprise, given their recent performances. Anyway, the effectiveness of the selectors’ decision hinges squarely on the Cup’s result. Let’s hope for the better and pray that the final-15 squad will come up to the expectations.
