REASI: To create awareness about female foeticide, District Health Society, Reasi on Saturday organised a sensitisation workshop about Pre Conception and Pre Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act, Prohibition and Regulation Act.
The workshop was inaugurated by District Development Commissioner (DDC) Reasi, Shabir Ahmad Bhatt
Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Reasi, Dr Parminder Singh, Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Dr K.C Dogra and Medical Superintendent District Hospital Reasi were also present on the occasion.
CMO highlighted the objectives of the workshop and gave a presentation on PCPNDT Act.
Resource persons elaborated about prenatal diagnostic techniques like testing for disease and aims, types of tests, some reason for prenatal diagnosis, regulations of PNDT, essential communication and implementation of PNDT act.
DDC Shabir Ahmad Bhatt on the occasion emphasised the need for raising public awareness on gender equity through such workshops and also by seminars/debates across the district. He stressed on involving the PRIs and field functionaries in the awareness programmes and said that support from judiciary, police, concerned departments and NGO is vital for successful implementation of the Act.
