JAMMU: PG Department of Home Science, University of Jammu in collaboration with Jodhamal Public School organized one day training programme for early childhood educators at the school premise on Tuesday.

Prof. Rajni Dhingra, Dean Faculty of Science and Head, Department of Home Science, University of Jammu was the Chief Guest while Dr. Chand Trehan, an eminent counsellor of the State was the Guest of Honour on the occasion.

Dr. Sarika Manhas, Assistant Professor, Department of Home Science, University of Jammu was the resource person for the training along with Prof. Dhingra and Dr. Trehan.

Dr. Chand Trehan in her introductory session underlined the objectives of the training programme. She stressed on the need of harnessing intrinsic motivation of the teachers for improving the quality of their teaching. She also highlighted the importance of preschool years in development of a wholesome personality.

Dr. Sarika Manhas presented strategies for identifying special needs of children in the early years of schooling. She stressed on the need of understanding exceptionalities among children especially learning disabilities, Attention – Deficit – Hyperactivity Disorder, childhood Autism and giftedness. She also provided inputs for creating more conducive classroom environment for all children.

Prof. Rajni Dhingra highlighted the development progression of children from preschool to school age. She emphasized on the need of understanding the theoretical constructs underlying for Childrens’ development. She also stressed on the need of early childhood care and education and play activities.

The last session was based on understanding the need of using teaching aids as part of the preschool and school; curriculum. Research scholars of Departmant of Home Science namely Isha, Nitu, Samriti and Kanika demonstrated  how teaching aids can be prepared to improve cognitive skills, sensory capacities and instilling numeracy and literacy skills among children.

The training programme was attended by the teachers of Jodhamal Public School, KC Public School, Jammu Sanskriti School, KC Gurukul Public School, KC International School, BSF School and Stephens’ International.
