Work hard to achieve goals: Governor tells students

SRINAGAR: Governor, N.N. Vohra inaugurated a workshop on the theme “The Civil Services: An Achievable Goal”, organised by the ASCENT Group, here at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC), on Saturday.
The Governor complimented Mohammad Shafi Pandit for the efforts of his Group to provide guidance to students for achieving their career goals.
Lauding the talented youth of the State, particularly the girl students, the Governor observed that given the required opportunities and a conducive enabling environment, our students are capable of achieving excellent results in every arena. He urged the Civil Society to help create an atmosphere which would help the youth to lead the State to a better and brighter tomorrow.
He observed that despite the serious difficulties faced in the past years, there has been a significant increase in the number of our students who have got selected for the various All India and Central Services. The Governor noted that concerted efforts for creating awareness about the various opportunities and provision of guidance would enable our youth to achieve outstanding results. He exhorted the youth to explore the wonderful career opportunities which are now available all over the world and get to work hard to achieve their goals.
The Governor lauded the efforts of the State Universities in providing able guidance through the centres run by them to coach the aspirants of various prestigious services. The Governor urged Prof. Andrabi, Vice Chancellor of Kashmir University, to prepare a compendium on the scholarships available for pursuing higher education and research in various eminent institutions in the country, for the guidance of the students.
Referring to the career opportunities available in fields like management, engineering, medicine, science and technology, law, accountancy etc., the Governor observed that a large number of scholarships are available for bright students to pursue their preferred career options. Citing the example of PMSSS, he said that over 5000 students from the State can avail handsome scholarships every year for pursuing professional courses all over the country.
Mohammad Shafi Pandit, Chairman, ASCENT Group, presented the Welcome address on the occasion.
Prof. Kurshid Iqbal Andrabi, Vice-Chancellor, Kashmir University; Prof. Tarique Khan, Jamia Milia Islamia; and Sunita Mukherjee, IAS (retd.) presented motivational lectures for the several hundred civil services aspirants who were present on the occasion.
