Who is the assistant-human or artificial intelligence?
Ravinder Kumar
The present era is the era of modern technology and inventions have been made to make human life easier. Every invention brings its advantages and disadvantages and one such invention is artificial intelligence (AI), it has many advantages because it has made many tasks easy but it also has many disadvantages. A lot of research has been done on artificial intelligence. Many researchers have said that it is beneficial, but many say that it is harmful to human life.
In today’s time, every industry is using AI extensively so that their work becomes easier and it is happening but is it really for the well-being of humans because AI has taken over the work of many people? According to research from America, about 37% of US adults believe that AI will result in fewer opportunities, while older generations express pessimism and worry about potential skill replacement. They are more inclined to embrace AI as a collaborative partner rather than viewing it as a threat. We should think about this if we become addicted to technology, we will not be able to do any work humans will have no contribution to any industry and humans will become useless.
Many other studies show how AI and technology are keeping humans away from work. According to the World Economic Forum’s report on the future of jobs, machines perform 34% of all business-related tasks, while humans handle the remaining 66%. Companies surveyed have also reduced their forecasts for increased automation, adjusting automation from 47% to 42% by 2025.
If we talk about the media industry, AI is being used extensively and the media has also increased the use of artificial tools in designing, editing, producing, and publishing media content. Dependence on AI tools and applications can potentially result in job loss, discrimination, bias risk, diminished quality, and credibility. According to Nociet.al. (2024) In the United States, 130 newspapers have disappeared recently and, since 2005, 2,900 newspapers have vanished in the air and 43,000 journalists have lost their jobs just because of artificial intelligence. In 2024 an article was published on Linkdin.com about Layoffs Due to AI Expected to increase in 2025, and will replace employees with this technology. This is slightly more than the 30% who said they laid off workers for this reason this year.
Artificial intelligence is a huge challenge in India because India’s manufacturing sector is completely dependent on labor andthe labor here is either low-skilled or poorly skilled works in industries like textile, electronics and automobile due to robotic technology and AI- tools, the demand for manual labor is ending
A report by McKinsey Global Institute estimates that automation could displace up to 60 million workers in India’s manufacturing sector by 2030, particularly impacting jobs in textile and electronics.
AI is a big concern. It potentially impacts job security in every industry and will primarily replace entry-level jobs. To avoid this job-eating disaster, institutions should adequately prepare students for the challenges and opportunities presented by AI. Institutions should incorporate more training on AI and its implications into their curriculum because we should make AI our assistant and not become its assistant.
