NEW DELHI: Lashing out at Congress Vice President, Rahul Gandhi for addressing one question every day to Prime Minister, Narendra Modi through Twitter, Union Minister and BJP ‘Seh- Prabhari’ (Co-incharge) of Gujarat Assembly election, Dr Jitendra Singh said that not only these questions are clumsily phrased in high school idiom, but even the content is not based on facts and figures.
Where in Gujarat did Rahul Gandhi find women unsafe, asked Dr Jitendra Singh and said, the whole world knows that Gujarat is one of the safest places for women to live. In Gujarat, he said, women are found walking home late night after a late work-shift or even after festivities like “Garba” and there has never been a single incident that could give them a feeling of insecurity.
Referring to Question No. 6 in the series, put up by Rahul Gandhi on Twitter this morning, alleging high unemployment prevalence in Gujarat, Dr Jitendra Singh said, either Rahul Gandhi’s team is not able to decipher and analyze the statistics correctly or they tend to selectively pick up figures here and there to make projections that suit their convenience. He said, official figures indicate that unemployment rate in Gujarat is among the lowest standing at around 0.9 per cent in comparison to the national average of unemployment being five per cent.
Few days back, Singh alleged that Rahul Gandhi’s team had projected that 80 per cent of engineering graduates in Gujarat were unemployed and the source of data, according to them, was AICTE (All India Council of Technical Education). Such an observation is not only laughable and far from truth, but also betrays extreme ignorance on the part of Rahul Gandhi’s researchers, because the AICTE data is usually based on the rate of campus placement and does not reflect the overall rate of employment or unemployment, he added.
Meanwhile, a delegation of journalists from Tripura representing the Forum for Protection of Journalists comprising Subal Kumar Dey of Syandan Patrika, Biswendu Bhattacharya of Times of India, Nabendu Bhattacharjee of Hindustan Samachar and others, met Dr Jitendra Singh and requested for a high-level inquiry against violence and oppression unleashed by the Makan Sarkar Government on the journalists of the State.
They cited the example of recent killing of journalist Sudip Datta Bhowmik at point-blank range allegedly at the behest of State Police and this killing occurred just within two months of the earlier killing of another young television journalist Santanu Bhowmik.
Singh gave a patient hearing to the aggrieved journalists, received a memorandum from them and assured that he would put up their case before the Union Home Ministry.
