Weeklong CME on palliative care begins

SRINAGAR: Pain and Palliative Care Services Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) in coordination with CAN Support Foundation New Delhi on Tuesday started weeklong training programme on pain and palliative care which is a specialised medical care for people with serious and terminal illnesses.
The Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme will focus on providing patients relief from the symptoms of pain and stress of a serious illness besides extending psycho-social support.

Dr. M. Ashraf Teli, Professor Department of Radiation Oncology welcomed the guests and briefed about the objective of training programme. He also briefed about pain and palliative care services at SKIMS which is managed in collaboration with Medical Oncology, Surgical Oncology, Clinical Haemotology and Anesthesia and Critical Care.
Director SKIMS Dr. Showkat Zargar said pain and palliative care is critical aspect in case of terminally and serious patients. “The mitigation of pain is much needed in case of terminally ill patients”, he added. He further said he would like to start home care services for such terminally sick patients.
The staff of CAN Support Foundation New Delhi comprising Dr. Ravinder Mohan Head Knowledge, Training, Education and Research, Pallika Sr. Counsellor, Savita Luka, Nurse trainer will deliberate on various aspects of pain and palliative care management.
