JAMMU: The Saturday’s weapon snatching incident in the heart of Jammu city by four Kashmir based youth is a serious development, especially at a time when the ‘City of Temples’ is being surrounded by unauthorised construction and rampant encroachment of forest land by residents hailing from different parts of the Valley.
In this case too, preliminary investigations have revealed that the youth involved in weapon snatching had history of stone-pelting and street protests in South Kashmir district of Shopian.
Police has also stumbled upon details such as use of fake registration plate on the motor bike and their presence in Jammu for past four-five days.
In the absence of any concrete information, the police is struggling to track down another suspect who was still at large along with the service weapon.
Mushrooming of unauthorised colonies on the outskirts of Jammu is acting as safe haven for anti-national elements and in the absence of verification even the local police officers have little information about their activities.
Police is also working out the details to piece together the puzzle where these youth were staying in Jammu and who had organised their travel from Shopian to the winter capital and whether they had been entrusted with the responsibility of snatching a weapon to help another terror module execute the terror plot ahead of the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of inauguration of country’s longest road tunnel between Chenani and Nashri.
Following the snatching incident, the senior police and civil officers are expected to hold fresh review of the security arrangements.
Special Protection Group, responsible for the security of Prime Minister is already camping here to take stock of the security arrangements. The entire highway between Jammu and Chenani has been alerted and extra deployment of paramilitary and state police has been made to sanitise the crucial highway.they said adding that weapon is still to be traced. Maulana Dehlavi, who reached here last afternoon after wrapping his Kashmir visit said, “The official vehicle dropped me at the state guest house at around 2130 hours following which the driver and the PSO left the place.”
He however, condemned the attack and expressed concern.
According to sources the ambassador driver dropped the cop near Jewel Chowk area following which he was on way towards Bikram Chowk on foot when the miscreants struck.
