Weapon snatch case: ‘Untraced’ with AK-47 mastermind Aamir keeps police on tenterhook

JAMMU: With Navratras starting on Tuesday and the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Udhampur round the corner, ‘untraced’ mastermind in weapon snatch case Aamir is still at large and has kept the police vis-a-vis security forces on tenterhook.
According to sources, police have activated all its security wings to look out for the main accused, Aamir, who hatched a conspiracy of snatching a weapon from the Selection Grade Constable on the fateful night of March 25.
“Three of the attackers were arrested but Aamir is yet to be traced, which is a matter of concern because the snatched weapon is still with him,” reliable sources here said.
They said that highway is on alert while security and intelligence agencies are monitoring the situation closely across the state but there are still no whereabouts of Aamir with the police.
“If sources are to be believed, Aamir might have dropped the weapon with someone and moved out of the state,” they added or his very much presence within the city in a hideout can also not be ruled out.
“Police have already arrested two accused and one is still at large, whereas this is also a serious security concern,” S D Singh, Inspector General of Police, Jammu Zone told reporters here at the sidelines of a function.
He further added that fool-proof security arrangements have been put at place in the entire region to avoid any untoward incident.
He asserted that Jammu Police have also activated its security grid at border areas and set up extra checking points at all roads leading to the winter capital city.
“Another suspect identified as Mohammad Shahid has been taken into custody by police from Nagrota area while was trying to escape to Kashmir valley in a taxi and the third one namely Asif was arrested from Kashmir,” sources here said.
They said Shaheed, a resident of Shopian, was trying to give a slip to the police when he was nabbed at a check point.
Sources said that Aamir is having the weapon (AK-47) and 30 round magazine carried by the constable, who was hospitalised after attacked by the miscreants by spraying chilly powder in his eyes and hit by a rod.
“All the accused belong to Kashmir but Aamir has a house Bhatindi area also,” sources asserted.
Meanwhile, the incident has raised the eyebrows of the security forces as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also scheduled to visit Udhampur on April 2 to inaugurate Chenani-Nashri tunnel. High alert  is sounded here after a Private Security Officer of Chairman, Anjumana Minhaj-e-Rasool Maulana Dehlavi was attacked by group of suspected Kashmiri youth and they fled away with his official Ak-47 weapon near Tawi Bridge at Jewel Chowk.
The injured police PSO identified was Selection Grade Constable Mohammad Hanief, 50, son of Mohammad Subhan Sheikh, resident of Banihal, Batch number 355, was posted with Jammu and Kashmir Armed Police at the time of incident
